Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC) Project
In October 2001 the Australian Government announced that a new Defence headquarters would be constructed between Queanbeyan and Bungendore in New South Wales, on the Kings Highway corridor. The HQJOC Project will create a new integrated operational level joint headquarters. This new facility will provide the Chief of the Defence Force (CDF) with a more effective means of commanding the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The new headquarters will bring together for the first time in an integrated environment, the Vice Chief of the Defence Force and strategic staff in Canberra, the Deputy Chief of Joint Operations and joint staff, Maritime, Land, Air and Special Operations staff, the Joint Operations Intelligence Centre, and 1st Joint Movement Group located in Sydney, and a portion of the Headquarters Joint Logistics Command staff currently in Melbourne.

By bringing together staff and agencies at the strategic and operational level, the new HQJOC will improve the effectiveness of joint planning, the allocation of resources for military operations, and the command and control of  operations.

The service and civilian Defence personnel who will work in the new headquarters will be responsible for the planning and conduct of single Service, joint and combined military campaigns, operations and other designated activities.
